About Goa

Beaches, Portuguese Heritage & Spice Country

India's smallest state packs in more character than places ten times its size — a sun-soaked sliver of Arabian Sea coast where golden beaches meet four centuries of Portuguese heritage. Laze on the palm-fringed sands of the north and south, explore the whitewashed churches and cobbled lanes of Old Goa, or cruise the Mandovi past hilltop forts and riverside cafés. Inland lies a greener, slower Goa of spice plantations, old Hindu temples, and birdsong-filled backwaters. The food and rhythm are unmistakable — fresh seafood, fiery vindaloo, feni, sunset shacks, and live music drifting along the coast. Relaxed, beautiful, and effortlessly cosmopolitan, Goa rewards travellers who come for the beaches, the heritage, and the good life.

Priol

Mangueshi Temple

Nestled among the green hills of Priol in Ponda, the Mangueshi Temple is among the largest, wealthiest, and most beloved Hindu shrines in Goa. Dedicated to Lord Manguesh, a form of Shiva, its present form dates to the 18th century, when the deity was moved here to escape religious persecution in the old Portuguese conquests. The temple is celebrated for its serene white architecture, which quietly absorbs Goan-Portuguese influences — balustraded façades, domes, and pilasters — alongside classical Hindu form, crowned by an elegant seven-storey deepstambha (lamp tower) that blazes with oil lamps on festival nights. A large stepped water tank, the oldest part of the complex, mirrors the buildings in stillness. Travellers come for the calm, the temple music, and the sense of a living tradition, while the annual festivals of Maghotsav and Ram Navami fill the courtyards with colour. Mangueshi captures the gentle, syncretic soul of Hindu Goa.

Old Goa

Basilica of Bom Jesus

In the heart of Old Goa, the Basilica of Bom Jesus is one of India's most beautiful colonial churches and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Completed in 1605, its weathered laterite façade gives way to an interior of gilded Baroque splendour — a soaring altar covered in gold leaf, intricate woodwork, and centuries-old paintings. It is best known as the resting place of St. Francis Xavier, whose remains lie in an ornate silver casket displayed publicly only once every ten years. Cool, hushed, and atmospheric, it's a striking contrast to Goa's sunlit beaches, and the surrounding Old Goa complex of churches and convents makes for a fascinating half-day of heritage. It remains one of the finest examples of European architecture anywhere in Asia.

Western Ghats

Dudhsagar Falls

Tumbling some 310 metres down the forested slopes of the Western Ghats on the Goa–Karnataka border, Dudhsagar — literally 'Sea of Milk' — is among the tallest and most spectacular waterfalls in India. Fed by the Mandovi river, its four frothing tiers turn the cliff face into a roaring column of white, never more dramatic than at the height of the monsoon when the surrounding jungle of the Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary turns a deep, dripping green. A vintage railway line threads across the cliff beside the cascade, and travellers reach the base by rugged jeep safari through the forest, often spotting langurs, deer, and bright forest birds along the way. The reward is a chance to stand in the cool spray and swim in the pools below. Wild, remote, and thunderous, Dudhsagar is Goa's most breathtaking escape beyond the beaches.
